🔵 75 years ago, the Second World War ended on European soil. We will discuss the lessons of the post-war world order, how to prevent international crimes in the future and protect peace, and what the responsibility of the UN Security Council is. We will also address what we can learn from the past to help respond to the current global COVID-19 crisis.
This high-level informal meeting is one of the signature events of Estonia’s presidency of the Security Council and will bring together nearly 50 foreign ministers from across the world.
The meeting takes place on Friday, 8th of May 2020, at 4 pm ( at 5 pm Estonian time).
Briefers:
💧  President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen
đź’§ UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo
đź’§ Professor of Yale University Timothy Snyder
The meeting is moderated by Foreign Minister of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu.
After statements from the briefers, the floor will be given to Council members, followed by interventions from other UN member states.
The event is powered by Hybridity, a COVID-19 safe virtual event platform developed in Estonia.
