Vital Statistics Certificates

A family event certificate (birth, death, marriage, divorce or change of name) can be issued to the person directly or to one’s guardian. Estonian citizens who have registered their place of residency in the Germany can apply for the required certificate through the e-population register.

When ordering via e-population register, please be sure to add that you would like the certificate through the Estonian Embassy in Berlin and in the additional information, please be sure to write your home address where we can send the certificate by registered mail.

If you do not have access to online services, you can order vital statistics document by post. This can be done by sending us the following documents (Konsularabteilung, Botschaft von Estland, Hildebrandstr. 5, 10785 Berlin):

  • an application
  • proof of payment of fee
  • a copy of the identity document

Certificate of martial capacity

In order to get married in Germany please check with the authority where you are planning to get married (register office, church) which documents are required. You might be asked to prove that there are no obstacles by Estonian law for you to get married. The document is called a certificate of martial capacity. Estonian citizens who have registered their place of residency to Germany can apply for the certificate from the Estonian Embassy in Berlin via email if the application is digitally signed.

If you can not sign digitally, You can order this certificate by mail. This can be done by sending us (Konsularabteilung, Botschaft von Estland, Hildebrandstr. 5, 10785 Berlin) the following documents:

  • an application
  • payment proof of state fee
  • a copy of your and your future spouse’s passport or ID-card

According to the Estonian regulations the certificate will expire if the marriage is not contracted within six months after the certificate has been issued.

Extract of a Population Register

Every adult person has the right to receive information about him/herself, his/her minor children, wards, deceased spouse and registered partner entered in the population register, and to receive extracts from the data. Population register extracts are issued only in Estonian or English. The easiest way to get acquainted with the data on yourself, your minor children or ward and to order an extract from the data is through the e-population register.

When ordering via e-population register, please be sure to add that you would like the certificate through the Estonian Embassy in Berlin and in the additional information, please be sure to write your home address where we can send the certificate by registered mail.

  • an application
  • proof of payment of fee
  • a copy of the identity document

Examples of state fees

  • The state fee for certificate of martial capacity or vital statistics in German, English, Estonian or French is 30 EUR;
  • The state fee for certificate of martial capacity or vital statistics in multilingual standard form is 50 EUR;
  • The extract from poplation register in Estonian or in English costs 30 EUR;
  • The state fee for the extract from poplation register in multilingual standard form is 50 EUR.

The state fee can be transferred to the bank account of the Estonian Embassy in Berlin:

It takes 2-4 weeks to process application for certificate, depending of the certificate.
